Who we are
Visiting Kyoto ("we," "us") publishes this website as an independent travel guide to Kyoto, Japan. We are the data controller for the personal data described below, except where we act only as a conduit to a third-party service (like GetYourGuide or Cookiebot), which is noted throughout this policy.
What data we collect
This is a content site with no user accounts, logins, or forms that collect personal information directly. The data we're aware of comes from:
- Cookies and similar technologies — set by Cookiebot (to remember your consent choices) and, if you accept marketing cookies, by GetYourGuide (to power the booking widget and attribute affiliate referrals). Full detail in the Cookie Policy.
- Standard server logs — like most websites, our hosting infrastructure may log basic technical data (IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps) for security and operational purposes. We don't cross-reference this with any other data source.
We do not run first-party analytics, advertising pixels, or any tracking beyond what's disclosed above and in the Cookie Policy.
Why we process your data (legal basis)
- Consent — GetYourGuide's widget and any associated tracking only activate after you accept marketing cookies through the Cookiebot banner. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interest — basic server logs are kept for security (detecting abuse, debugging outages) under our legitimate interest in keeping the site running reliably, kept to the minimum necessary.

International data transfers
Cookiebot and GetYourGuide may process data outside of your country, including in jurisdictions without the same data protection framework as your own. Both providers publish their own safeguards and privacy policies — see Cookiebot's policy and GetYourGuide's policy for their specific transfer mechanisms.
How long we keep data
Cookie consent records are kept by Cookiebot for as long as your consent choice remains valid (typically up to 12 months, after which you'll be asked again). Server logs are retained only as long as needed for security purposes and are rotated regularly. We don't otherwise store personal data ourselves.

Children's privacy
This site isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided data to us or our third-party tools, contact us and we'll address it.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page when our data practices or third-party tools change, and update the "Last updated" date at the top. Significant changes will also be reflected in the Cookiebot consent banner, which may re-prompt you for consent.
