Kyoto in 1 Day: Interactive Map
Built for day-trippers from Osaka, Kobe, or Shin-Osaka, and anyone with just one day before moving on. A tight, walkable loop through Kyoto's east-central highlights — no backtracking across town.
Eastern & Central Kyoto Highlights
Fushimi Inari Taisha
Two stops from Kyoto Station on the JR Nara Line. Hike up through the vermillion torii gates while they're still empty — even 30 minutes up and back is worthwhile if you're pressed for time.
Breakfast near Kyoto Station
Grab onigiri and coffee from a station convenience store, or a quick sit-down breakfast set in the station building.
Kiyomizu-dera Temple
Bus 206 from the station (about 20 min). The wooden stage over the hillside is Kyoto's most photographed viewpoint.
Sannenzaka & Ninenzaka
Walk down through these preserved lantern-lit lanes toward Gion — tea shops, pottery stores, and machiya houses.
Yasaka Shrine & Maruyama Park
A free, always-open shrine leading into Kyoto's most famous park.
Gion District
Wander Hanamikoji Street and the Shirakawa Canal. See our Gion Guide for where to look for geiko.
Lunch in Gion or Pontocho
Affordable udon or a kaiseki lunch box on a side street rather than the main tourist strip.
Nishiki Market
Walk or take the subway from Gion-Shijo to Nishiki (about 15 min). Graze through Kyoto's Kitchen.
Nijo Castle
Subway (Tozai Line) to Nijojo-mae, about 10 minutes. The nightingale floors are worth the detour even on a tight schedule.
Back to Kyoto Station
Subway back to the station (about 15 min). Browse Isetan department store, grab souvenirs, or catch the view from Kyoto Tower before your onward train.
