🦌 Nara Park & Deer
Nara Park is home to 1,200+ freely roaming sika deer, considered sacred messengers of the gods. They're surprisingly gentle — but they WILL bow to you expecting crackers.
- Deer crackers (shika senbei): ¥200 per pack from vendors throughout the park
- Best behavior: Bow to the deer first — they often bow back
- Watch for: Does with fawns in spring/early summer can be protective
- Photos: Sit on the ground with crackers — deer will gather around you
